PERTH, ON, 19 Dec., 2006 – User-generated content like podcasts are increasingly being used as learning content inside organizations, and dominKnow Inc.’s LCMS 5.1 is ready to host, track and deploy podcasts while complying with the latest learning standards. dominKnow LCMS 5.1 is available as a hosted service, priced per seat.
Time Magazine officially anointed the era of user-generated content when its editors recently declared You as the 2006 Person of the Year, saying internet content like podcasts invite “community and collaboration on a scale never seen before.” According to the PEW Internet & American Life Project, 12% of Internet users say they have downloaded a podcast, a population that’s doubled over six months.
Real Simple Syndication (RSS) feeds are accessed by Internet users to subscribe to podcasts and other forms of syndicated online content.
“Whether it’s the latest forms of user-generated content or the newest ways of sharing it across the enterprise, dominKnow LCMS 5.1 is designed to help organizations create state-of-the-art online training,” said dominKnow's CEO Bill Beacham.
Course developers, administrators and students can now stay in tune with changes made to courses without having to log into dominKnow LCMS 5.1. All participants in the course life cycle can keep up with changes using RSS developer reports.
dominKnow LCMS 5.1 supports multiple episode podcasts. Developers can attach podcasts, netcasts, and audio transcriptions to supplement their courses — enabling disconnected or mobile on-the-go learning. Audio transcription also helps ensure courses meet Section 508 accessibility requirements. Learners can subscribe to these podcasts through the dominKnow LCMS 5.1 system interface or other popular aggregators such as iTunes or Talkr.
dominKnow LCMS 5.1 customers can now export training content compatible with both SCORM 1.2 and SCORM 2004. The SCORM standard allows for plug-and-play interoperability and content reusability of e-learning content and, according to the American Society for Training and Development, “is fast becoming the defacto e-learning technology standard widely embraced and supported today by world-leading corporations, universities, system providers, and content vendors.”
dominKnow LCMS 5.1 also supports the AICC’s Package Exchange Notification Services (PENS) standard. PENS is an interoperability guideline that defines the interface between authoring tools and Learning Management System (LMS) to automate the publishing and testing of learning materials accessed through LMS systems.
dominKnow LCMS 5.1 also offers a wide range of new advanced deployment features that include the ability to create surveys and attach them — along with polls — as presentation files in learning objects. Additionally, a new themes manager and theme supported skin templates now separate design from presentation.
